Single-room air conditioners of different sizes use between 500 to 1500 watts. The average central aircon system, on the other hand, will use about 3000 to 5000 watts of electricity.
Now it’s time to calculate your AC's energy consumption:
- To calculate the electricity cost of your air conditioner, multiply the electricity consumption or the kilowatt per hour (kWh) by your tariff rate (i.e. 30 cents/kWh).
- To get the energy consumption (kWh), simply multiply your AC wattage (kW or W) by the number of hours you use.
- For example, if you are using a 300W air conditioner for 4 hours per day, then you are consuming about 1200Wh or 1.2kWh per day. In one month, the consumption cost will be 1.2kWh x 30 days x 0.30 $/kWh) = $10.80.
